I downloaded this album earlier this week and am enjoying it. It's a little softer than most of what I listen to, but I think the songwriting's great. And I'm all for strong women in music who aren't your cookie cutter empty headed pop princesses.
I posted a link to a great resource for those looking to learn to play guitar or improve on their playing. I came across Justin Sandercoe's free lessons on Youtube, and I think he's a really great teacher. See Justin Guitar link to check out his website.
This week was fairly unproductive for me artistically. I did decide to create this blog though! So I guess it hasn't been a complete waste. The name for it was inspired by a friend of mine, the beautiful burlesque dancer Josie(thanks girl). She nicknamed me Rokket Queen, after my love (obsession really) with GnR.
I decided a blog might be a good way to document my various creative projects, like an online art journal. I'm currently working on a series of 50 paintings, a contemporary Dance of Death. For info on the various medieval versions see
Dance of Death link
I am changing the characters though so it reflects our current social structure, for example the Emperor I changed to the President, and the Bishop to the CEO. I am currently on painting 8 of a 50 painting series, so I've got a long way to go.
I'm also working on a novel I've always wanted to write. I'm writing the first draft, and some of my friends who are also writing are helping me by giving me feedback as I finish chapters. This has been a huge help! It often takes another pair of eyes to point out errors you don't notice.
Musically, I need to have to be more consistent practicing my guitar playing. I go in spurts, playing for a while daily, then putting it down. This I know I need to work on.
This week there is a show at the gallery I will be working the opening for, the annual Mennofolk show. It's a group of Mennonite artists and musicians that put on the event each year, and it's always a great time. Good art, music, and people! The opening is Friday Feb. 26, at 7pm. Outworks Gallery 3rd floor 290 McDermot Ave. Winninpeg.
