30 Day Clothing Challenge - Day 1

I thought I would participate in Amy's 30 day clothing challenge (from the blog,Stripy Tights and Dark Delights). The first challenge is to take a photo of your closet. I don't have a closet right now as I'm staying with my boyfriend while my apartment is bring fixed from the fire. So here is a photo of my suitcase.

Of course all the clothes are black so you can't really see anything, but there are skirts, dresses and jeans in here.

Here's where my t-shirts and tops are hanging out for now.

On another fashion note my favorite pair of Demonia sandals gave out as I was walking to work. One of the straps busted and I had to temporarily staple it back together. I went to my fave store to get a new pair of shoes but none of the ones I likes were in my size. :( My lovely BF did crazy glue them back together. But I think it's time I go on eBay and get some more shoes.

My poor sandals!

Event - Swords and Sabres

This past Saturday I attended a local event called Swords and Sabers - a Renaissance fair type event that included Medieval enthusiasts, pirates and steampunks. It's the first one of such events in my city (as far as I know) so I decided to check it out.
When I arrived I immediately headed for the steampunk tent where I ran into the lovely Athena from the Winnipeg Steampunk group along with some other well attired ladies.

Anya, Athena and Lana show off their lovely outfits.

I'm excited that so many people are interested in Steam. There is talk of getting together regularly to share DIY tips, and there is even a picnic at the end of the month! So awesome.
I went and looked at the other tents and tables and there were some really great items for sale. The first I positively drooled over was Objects of our Afflication . She makes customized hats, both regular size top hats and mini hats. If you don't know already, I adore tiny top hats.

Besides the Steam type stuff, there was also a sizable pirate contingent at the event and a couple of Medieval groups. The Sons of Lugh are a group of Viking Re-enactors, and the Society for Creative Anachronism is a organization for medieval enthusiats. I thought they both looked great in their costumes and enjoyed looking at their displays.

Here are just some of the fabulous outfits at the event.

Gorgeous ladies.

Captain Jack stops for a refreshment.

I unfortunately can't remember this lovely lady's name, but I adore her outfit, and completely agree with her sentiment - just because it's Steampunk doesn't mean it has to be brown! So true.

I had a few people ask to take my photo as well, which was very nice. One photographer has a really neat business - he does 3D photography - very cool. Check out his site - Alivephotography .

Me, busting out the parasol.

All in all it was a lovely day out and I met some pretty cool peeps. I hope they are going to do another Swords and Sabres next year and am looking forward to the Steampunk picnic.

Red and Black week - Work Outfit 3

Just a quick post with another red and black week outfit. Thanks to everyone for their kind comments about the fire! I am doing okay and am enjoying my stay at the BF's. He's very sweet letting me hang out with him while my building gets repaired. :)

This work outfit features the red sash from the last work outfit post. I got the top on sale at Dynamite and paired it with black skinny jeans. I'm trying to keep casual Friday comfy, but still stylish.
I have to say I enjoyed this week's theme and I love seeing all the other R&B week posts. So many great ones!

Red and Black week - 2 more outfits

I didn't have time to write a new blog entry yesterday as I was busy running around, but I did take a pic of my red and black pjs last night. They're not technically pjs, but it's one of the outfits I sleep in so they're pjs to me.

It's my Nightmare Before Christmas tee that's so soft, along with some cozy black pajama pants. Instant gothy pjs!

Today I wore another red and black inspired outfit to work.

It consists of a black and white kimono style dress, black leggings and tank, and a red sash. To further the weekly theme I also took my "Out Damn Spot Out I Say" tote bag I got from the Globe Theatre in London last year.

On a side note, some of my co-workers surprised me today with some lovely flowers! They wanted to cheer me up because of the fire and being displaced. They're so sweet!

Red and Black week - Work Outfit 1

As you may have read in my earlier blog post, A fire has put me out of my apartment and I'll be living out of a suitcase (and a couple of drawers - thanks my lovely BF), for a while. I did rescue most of my clothes though, so I will be participating in red and black week after all!
My first outfit is a work one so is a little less gothy than usual.

You may ask, I see the black but where's the red? It's on my Emily cardigan (yes I wear an Emily cardigan to work sometimes).

My other posts this week I hope to be a little more dark inspired. ;)

Fire at my Apartment block!

This week was a rather dramatic one, with an unexpected emergency suddenly thrust upon me. I was at work Wednesday afternoon when a co-worker came to see me and said "I don't mean to alarm you, but there's a fire on your street and I think it's your building." I started panicking for my two little fur babies Pippin and Percy. We quickly went to my street to see, and when I saw the fire trucks in front of my building I started running. Of course no one was allowed in and a cop took my info and said no they couldn't get my animals right now. But a fireman saw me crying and came over and asked where they were and their description and went in and brought them out! I'm so grateful! My bunny and guinea are safe!

Pippy investigates the new litter box.

Percy wants more food, of course.

Everyone got out of the building including the pets and no one was hurt, which is by far the most important part. But after going to a friend's house I realized I only had my pets, my purse and the clothes I wore to work. I had no idea if I'd lost everything or what.
As the need for a change of clothes and some toiletries was immediate, we went to a big box store for affordable items. Superstore (the Canadian equivalent of maybe ASDA in the UK) has a line of clothes called Joe Fresh which are horribly hipster. I was not hopeful. But I managed to find a black t shirt, tank, black skirt etc. At least a gothy disaster was averted.

A "Joe" example - eww. Lol

For two days I had no idea what my status was as far as my apartment or any of my belongings. On Friday afternoon I was finally allowed back in to assess the damage and grab what I could carry. Here's some photos of the inside of the building.

Close up of debris

Two of the apartments across the hall were destroyed. I briefly caught a glimpse inside one and I feel terrible for them, there's water and smoke damage and debris everywhere. The main apartment hallway (seen above) had wet carpeting and debris and smelled like smoke. When I opened the door to my place though it was like nothing at all happened!!! There was no smoke damage, no water damage, nothing! It was all as if I'd left for work that day. I couldn't believe my luck! I didn't even get any water in from the hallway because of my welcome mat. My Mum bought it for me a few Christmas ago, it's ordered from the BBC website and says "Mind the Gap" on it. It fits right in front of my door and sopped up the water. Thanks Mum!

My amazing doormat!

So I won't be home for weeks but at least I am okay, I have my furry pets, and I even have my art project and clothes. My friend's and family have been so awesome and supportive too during this time. They are the best!
I was going to participate in Amy's 30 Day Clothing challenge (from Stripey Tights and Dark Delights) the first one being to take a picture of your closet. I guess I'll just have to take a photo of my suitcase. ;)
